Designing a professional studio that delivers impeccable sound requires more than just high-quality equipment; the environment itself must be optimized acoustically. At Corsini Acoustic Solutions, we provide clients with customized designs that transform their vision into reality, combining state-of-the-art tools, expertise, and industry-leading acoustic treatments.

In this project, we collaborated closely with the client to develop an advanced studio space featuring Artnovion Signature Line panels, tailored to enhance both aesthetics and acoustic performance. This blog will walk you through the process, starting from the initial 3D design views to detailed blueprints, elevation, and isometric perspectives that brought the project to life.

3D Design Views: A Vision Taking Shape

The first step in realizing the client’s vision was creating 3D design views. These rendered models served as a visual representation of the studio layout, allowing us and the client to conceptualize the final outcome before installation began.

The 3D designs showcased the placement of each Artnovion panel, including Atlas diffusers on the front wall, Bow Tox absorbers on the ceiling, and Azteka corner bass traps strategically located to address low-frequency issues. By visualizing the room in its entirety, we could ensure a seamless integration of design and function, guaranteeing optimal acoustic performance while meeting the client’s aesthetic preferences.

Blueprints: Laying the Groundwork

Once the design was finalized, we moved on to creating detailed blueprints. These technical drawings specified the exact placement and mounting systems for each acoustic element. Panels like the Bow hybrid absorber/diffuser were marked for installation using Artnovion’s FixArt Tube system, while Azteka absorbers utilized integrated fixing systems for a secure and precise fit.

The blueprints also accounted for the client’s existing infrastructure, such as air conditioning units and electrical systems, ensuring no conflicts during installation. This meticulous planning minimized disruptions, enabling a smooth transition from concept to construction.

Elevation and Isometric Views: Precision in Detail

To further refine the project, we developed elevation and isometric views. These perspectives provided a comprehensive understanding of the room’s dimensions, panel heights, and angles, essential for achieving the desired acoustic balance.

The elevation views highlighted how panels such as the Bow Tox and Myron E diffusers would interact with ceiling heights, while isometric drawings offered a three-dimensional perspective on the studio’s spatial dynamics. This level of detail was instrumental in ensuring that each component aligned perfectly with the design intent.

Stay tuned for the next section, where we’ll delve into the on-site pre-installation analysis, the installation process, and the final results that transformed this studio into an acoustic masterpiece.

Predicted Pre and Post Acoustic Report

An essential step in any acoustic design project is evaluating the predicted acoustic performance both before and after treatment. For Project 2335 Gibb, our detailed pre-installation analysis and modeling provided critical insights into how the Artnovion treatments would transform the studio’s sound environment. Here’s a breakdown of the results:

The first image showcases detailed reverberation time reductions across frequencies, absorption coefficients per surface, and the targeted improvements aligned with industry standards.

Pre-Treatment Acoustic Performance

Before acoustic treatment, the studio exhibited the following characteristics:

  • Reverberation Times (RT): Significant imbalances were observed across low and mid frequencies, with extended decay times causing muddiness in sound clarity. High frequencies reflected excessively, resulting in harshness.

  • Bass Management: Low-frequency resonance was particularly problematic, leading to modal peaks and nulls in the listening area. This was due to untreated corners and insufficient bass control.

  • Sound Clarity: Room reflections caused interference and comb filtering effects, degrading the overall fidelity and stereo imaging.

Post-Treatment Predicted Performance

After implementing the Artnovion treatment plan, we modeled the room’s post-treatment acoustic behavior to predict improvements:

  • Reverberation Times (RT): Achieved a uniform decay across all frequencies, with a significant reduction in low-frequency decay times. This brought clarity and precision to the sound.

  • Bass Ratio Enhancement: The addition of Azteka corner bass traps and Myron E panels effectively managed low-frequency resonance, smoothing out modal responses and enhancing bass clarity.

  • Sound Clarity: With strategically placed Atlas diffusers and Bow Tox absorbers, reflections were controlled, reducing comb filtering and improving stereo imaging. The balance of absorption and diffusion optimized the room for both mixing and production.

Before Treatment: The reverberation times were significantly higher, particularly in the mid to high frequencies, creating an acoustically "live" room with potential sound clarity issues.

After Treatment: The reverberation times were substantially reduced across all frequencies, especially in the mid-range and higher frequencies, resulting in a more balanced and controlled acoustic environment. The improvement aligns closely with target reverberation goals, enhancing clarity and overall listening conditions.

Visualized Improvements

The detailed acoustic analysis was backed by graphical representations:

  1. Reverberation Time Graphs: Clear reductions in RT across all frequencies, achieving an even response tailored to the client’s requirements.

  2. Sound Descriptors: Enhanced clarity, definition, and frequency uniformity post-treatment, ensuring accurate sound reproduction.

These predicted outcomes, based on precise acoustic modeling and simulation, highlighted how the studio would transition from an untreated, reflection-heavy space into a high-performance music production environment with professional-grade acoustics.

Stay tuned for the next session, where we explore the on-site installation process, including the challenges faced and the seamless integration of the Artnovion panels into the studio design.

Pre-Installation Setup

Before the installation began, we conducted a comprehensive on-site pre-installation analysis to finalize all design specifications and ensure alignment with the studio's dimensions and infrastructure. This included:

  • Speaker, Subwoofer, and Listening Position Analysis: Using advanced measurement tools, we analyzed the optimal placement for the main speakers, subwoofers, and the listening position. This ensured minimal interference from room modes, precise imaging, and an even frequency response at the listening spot. Adjustments were made based on the room’s unique acoustic characteristics to determine the best configuration.

  • Verification of Acoustic Treatment Placement: Ensuring the planned positions for the Atlas diffusers, Bow Tox absorbers, and Azteka corner bass traps matched the actual room dimensions and layout.

  • Infrastructure Assessment: Checking existing elements like air conditioning units, electrical systems, and lighting to ensure compatibility with the planned acoustic treatments.

  • Room Preparation: Marking exact panel positions based on the blueprints, elevation views, and isometric designs, ensuring accuracy during installation.

Front and Rear Wall Panels: Atlas diffusers were installed on the front wall to scatter sound evenly across the room, while the rear wall was treated with a combination of diffusers and absorbers for balanced diffusion and absorption.

Corner Bass Traps: Azteka corner bass traps were installed using integrated fixing systems, targeting low-frequency resonance and smoothing out modal issues in the room’s corners.

Panel Installation

The installation phase involved the precise mounting of the selected Artnovion acoustic treatments, ensuring both functionality and aesthetics. Here's how the elements were strategically positioned:

  • Ceiling Panels: The ceiling was equipped with a combination of Bow Tox absorbers and Myron E diffusers, installed using Artnovion's GlueArt system and the Bow Hybrid absorber/diffuser. This configuration was designed to reduce vertical reflections and enhance spatial diffusion, achieving a balanced and controlled soundstage.

  • Front Wall Panels: The Atlas diffusers were installed on the front wall to scatter sound evenly across the listening area, while Azteka corner bass traps were placed in the front corners to address low-frequency resonance effectively.

  • Rear Wall Panels: The rear wall featured Atlas diffusers, which were chosen to create a controlled yet spacious sound by diffusing reflections, along with Azteka absorbers to manage lower frequencies.

  • Side Wall Panels: Along the side walls, we installed a combination of Galan hybrid panels and Bow hybrid absorber/diffusers. These panels were carefully positioned to manage early reflections and ensure a smooth stereo image with improved clarity.

This precise installation strategy ensured optimal acoustic performance, addressing the room's specific challenges while enhancing its aesthetics. Each component worked cohesively to create an environment suitable for high-performance music production.
